Since 1985, Cayucos artist's, Peter Ladochy's, outstanding mosaic mural has adorned the west wall of the Morro Bay Library. This 625 square foot mural depicts scenes of local history, flora, and fauna against a background of ocean waters and verdant hillsides.

Time and the elements have taken their toll and many of the 125,000 one inch square tiles that comprise the work are in disrepair. The Morro Bay Friends of the Library are pleased to announce a restoration of the mural project that will take place July 20-31, 2009.

Under the guidance of Mr. Ladochy and master tile-setter, Steve Proano along with a group of interested volunteers, the Friends look forward to returning the mural to its former glory.

Work will include refastening loose tiles, replacing missing pieces, and regrouting and resealing the mural. When completed, the Friends hope that the art work will be an ongoing source of pride and pleasure for the community and the many visitors to Morro Bay and the Morro Bay Library.

If you are interested in volunteering to help on this project, please sign up by Wednesday, July 15 by calling Joan Decker at 771-8323 or emailing her at vp@morrobayfriendsoflibrary.org. When you leave your message, let her know what days and hours you are willing to help the week of July 20-31.
