This month we will suspend our Inspirational Wednesdays series to concentrate on a special Readers' Community Book Discussion Event. Over a three week period we will have the opportunity to read and discuss this spellbinding epic tale of ambition, anarchy, and absolute power set against the sprawling medieval canvas of twelfth-century England. This is Ken Follett's historical masterpiece. Join us for a truly inspiring reading and discussion event!

2nd Wednesday: March 10th Pillars of the Earth – Part 2 & Part 3 by Ken Follett
3rd Wednesday: March 17th Pillars of the Earth – Parts 4 – 6 by Ken Follett
4th Wednesday: March 24th c'est moi Ken Christensen
Join us during this special 4th Wednesdays program, as we celebrate this local artist/author and listen to passages from his books, Up North with Uncle Bob, The Blue Cabin, and Joey Appleshoe, A Work in Progress. Author will join us.
5th Wednesday: March 31st Gordon Snider – Author Gordon Snider
Join us for our first 5th Wednesdays program of the year in which we experience Tibet and the images that relate to this author's book, Sigourney's Quest. The author will also take us to the San Francisco of 1906, including the great earthquake and fire, and share how it relates to his newest novel, a historical thriller entitled, The Hypnotist. Author will join us.

February 22 City Council Meeting – Thank You!

On behalf of the Friends of the Library Board, thank you to all of you who took the time to write and call the Mayor and City Council. Your active support of your Library and willingness to take action made the difference!

According to Rob Schultz, City Attorney for Morro Bay, in his report from closed session at the Monday, February 22, 2010 City Council Meeting:

"… Council did direct staff to negotiate a transition plan for the use of the Program Room to Library use."

Because of you, we can now look forward to an expanded Library with the new lease.

"Nothing conclusive has been shared with the public yet. The details of the lease and room transition are still subject to negotiations between the City and County. But we are hopeful that all parties have turned a corner and will be looking for a different solution tomorrow than they were driving towards yesterday."
– Ric Deschler – Friends Board Member

Please come back often to this website as we will continue to keep you posted as more information becomes available as to what that transition plan looks like. Way to go Friends!

A special "Thank You" to the City Council majority who listened to their community!

When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better.
– Pauline R. Kezer

Book Sales

The rain came out in force during the morning hours but that didn't keep everyone away. We were forced to set everything up in the program room including the books we normally sell outside on the patio. The Library Staff was gracious and let us move furniture around and use the lobby of the library to help make up the difference.

Even with the foul weather, we were still able to raise $3,001.33 to help support our library.

Again an amazing thanks to all our volunteers that came out to work on this winter day. Special thanks to all those that did the extra work for set-up and tear-down dealing with all of the extra furniture moving.

Random Quote

"My mother and my father were illiterate immigrants from Russia. When I was a child they were constantly amazed that I could go to a building and take a book on any subject. They couldn't believe this access to knowledge we have here in America. They couldn't believe that it was free."
–Kirk Douglas (1916- )
